You Don’t Need More Motivation. You Need a Simpler Next Step.

There’s a strange thing that happens when you have a lot of ideas.

At first, it feels exciting.

You think about the planner you want to create, the side hustle you want to start, the journal you want to use, the business idea you want to try, the content you want to post…

And then suddenly?

Your brain has 47 tabs open and none of them are loading properly. 😂

That’s usually the point where people start looking for more motivation.

Another podcast.

Another “how to change your life” video.

Another productivity hack.

Another planner.

But sometimes, you don’t actually need more motivation.

You need a smaller next step.

Big goals usually feel overwhelming because they’re too vague

“Start a business” is huge.

“Get organised” is huge.

“Make money online” is huge.

“Sort my life out” is… extremely huge. 😂

Your brain doesn’t really know what to do with something that broad.

But this?

  • choose one product idea
  • write down three tasks for tomorrow
  • pick one platform
  • finish one page
  • create one listing
  • spend ten minutes journaling

That feels possible.

And possible is powerful.

The internet loves complicated systems

There’s always someone telling you that you need a 12-step morning routine, a perfect content strategy, five income streams, a funnel, a brand strategy, an email sequence and a colour-coded calendar before you can begin.

You don’t.

You can build things slowly.

You can learn while you’re doing it.

You can change your mind.

You can start messy.

In fact, most good things do.

Progress doesn’t always look impressive

Some days progress looks like launching a new digital product.

Other days it looks like opening the document.

That still counts.

Maybe you finally wrote down the idea that’s been floating around your head for three months.

Maybe you planned your week.

Maybe you looked at your finances instead of avoiding them.

Maybe you created the first page of your workbook.

Maybe you did one tiny thing your future self will be grateful for.

That is still movement.

And movement matters more than perfection.

If you want to start a digital side hustle, simplify that too

A lot of people get stuck before they’ve even started because they think their first digital product has to be huge.

It doesn’t.

Your first product could be:

  • a checklist
  • a short guide
  • a planner
  • a tracker
  • a template
  • a workbook
  • a resource list
  • a small collection of prompts

The question isn’t:

“What massive product can I create?”

Try asking:

“What is one useful thing I can help someone with?”

That question is much easier to answer.

And suddenly the whole thing feels a little less intimidating.

Your planner should help you, not judge you

We also need to talk about planners for a second. 😂

A planner should not make you feel guilty.

It should not sit on your desk silently judging you because Tuesday did not go according to plan.

Life changes.

Energy changes.

Priorities change.

Sometimes you need a detailed plan.

Sometimes you need a brain dump and one priority.

Sometimes you just need somewhere to write:

“Please remember this because apparently my brain will not.”

That’s why we love simple, flexible tools.

They’re supposed to support your life.

Not control it.

So what’s your next step?

Not your whole plan.

Not your five-year vision.

Not everything you need to fix before Monday.

Just the next thing.

Pick one.

Make it small enough that you can actually do it.

And then start.

You can figure out the step after that when you get there.

That’s pretty much the Soft Chaos philosophy:

A little less pressure.
A little more clarity.
One slightly chaotic step at a time. 💚
